This was Firestones Hamilton tire plant which in its day employed more than 2000 workers on its 552000 square-foot factory floor and office tower. Built in 1919 it cost about 2000000 and turned out 3500 tires daily of every description.
Firestone closed the plant in 1987. In 1919 the International Rubber Company changed its name to the Gates Rubber Company. Gates continued its expansion across the United States opening more factories and hiring thousands of people.
